Anna Rosen’s been counting down the days til her ninth grade orientation. Now that’s she’s finally grown a few inches and replaced her thick glasses with state-of-the-art contact lenses, maybe she won’t be a pariah anymore and can actually make friends despite her unorthodox family structure and her mother’s unpopular job as an investigative reporter.  But her new school is more like a prison, thanks to the newly-elected school board’s restrictive policies, and Anna is shocked when she gets her first-ever detention for attempting to access forbidden material on one of the sophisticated e-reader machines that have replaced all the books in the library.

 

In detention, Anna meets and befriends some other rebels, igniting her passion for justice. Soon, she’s leading a secret organization determined to undo the damage that’s been done to the school. But her subversive activities  come with a price. The bully who’s picked on her since kindergarten is determined to stop her, her mother pressures her to lie low for her own safety, and the police target her for harassment. The worse things get, the more Anna’s determined to fight. But after a heartbreaking betrayal leads to Anna’s arrest, will the authorities break her spirit… or will she break the system before they can?
